AI Reply Assistant compared with WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and Messenger

By Flowbie · Published 29 September 2026

AI Reply Assistant is an iPhone and iPad app that connects to your WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and Messenger accounts. It does not replace them. You keep your accounts, your contacts and your chats, and the app adds features on top of them that the official apps do not have.

This article compares the two feature by feature. It also lists the places where the official apps are better, because some of them are, and it is more useful to know that before you install anything.

Everything below reflects each app as of September 2026. The messaging apps ship changes often, so where a comparison is likely to change soon, we say so.

One app for four networks

The official apps cannot see each other. WhatsApp will not show you a Telegram message, and Instagram will not show you a WhatsApp one. If you use more than one of them, you check each app separately and search each app separately.

AI Reply Assistant shows conversations from all four networks in one list. The chat folders, search and AI features work across all of them. A folder you create can hold a WhatsApp group, a Telegram channel and an Instagram DM together. Telegram’s own folders only hold Telegram chats.

The app connects to each network from your phone. Your messages go from your device to WhatsApp, Telegram or Meta, and do not pass through a Flowbie server on the way.

You can find a message from any of the four networks by swiping down on the Home Screen and typing, the same way you search for an app or a note. Results from WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and Messenger appear together, and tapping one opens that chat. Apple’s own Messages app only puts iMessage and SMS into this search.

Search also reads the parts of a message that are not plain text. It indexes:

  • each option in a poll, not just the question
  • the name, time and venue of an event
  • the tasks in a checklist
  • the place name and address of a shared location
  • the title and description of a link preview
  • the caption on a photo or video
  • the text of a voice message, once you have transcribed it
  • the text in a photo, once you have analysed it
  • both the original and the translated text of a translated message

The official apps search message text, and some also search captions, links and file names. None of them index poll options, event venues or location names.

Locked, hidden and blocked chats are never added to the search index. Neither are view-once and deleted messages. The Spotlight search chapter of the User Guide explains how to turn it on.

Transcription

All four official apps now transcribe voice notes. The difference is in what else they transcribe, and where the work happens.

AI Reply Assistant transcribes on your iPhone using Apple’s speech recognition, in more than 30 languages and dialects. You can set the transcript language per chat and translate a transcript after it is made.

Translation

AI Reply Assistant uses Apple’s on-device Translation framework. The message text is not sent to any server to be translated. It translates message text, captions, transcripts, every option in a poll, event details, link previews and profile bios. A translated message stays translated when you come back to the chat.

The official apps work differently:

  • WhatsApp also translates on the device, but it is built for text messages. Polls, events, documents and stickers are not translated.
  • Telegram translates on its servers. Translating a whole chat automatically needs Telegram Premium, and secret chats are excluded.
  • Instagram translates on Meta’s servers, and asks you to agree to share the message with Meta before it does.

Telegram and Instagram support more languages than Apple’s framework does. If you regularly read a language Apple does not support, their translation will cover it and ours will not. The translation and transcription chapter lists what each message type supports.

The AI assistant

All four official apps now have some AI. WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger have Meta AI. WhatsApp’s Writing Help can also rewrite a message before you send it. It runs on Meta’s Private Processing servers, is off until you turn it on, and is available in a few languages and regions. Telegram summarises long channel posts and has an AI editor that fixes, restyles and translates what you type, both running on Telegram’s Cocoon network. Each of these works only inside its own app, and all of them run on a server rather than on your phone.

AI Reply Assistant’s assistant runs on Apple Intelligence on the device by default. It works the same way on all four networks, and it works without a signal. If you want a larger model, you can connect Claude with your own Anthropic API key, or buy AI Credit in the app. Claude is off until you set it up.

Drafting replies is one part of what the assistant does. It can also:

  • summarise a long chat, or all of your unread chats at once
  • turn a message into a calendar event, a reminder or a contact card
  • answer questions about your own messages across all four networks, for example “who did I say I would get back to this week?”
  • search the web and read documents you give it before answering
  • create images, and write Word, Excel and PowerPoint files

You choose which conversations the assistant is allowed to read. It does not read the others. The AI Assistant pages cover each of these in detail.

Scheduled messages

Telegram and Instagram can schedule a message for later. Instagram allows up to 29 days ahead. Telegram Premium subscribers can also make a scheduled message repeat, at set intervals such as every day, every week or every month. WhatsApp has tested scheduled messages in beta but has not released them as of this writing, and Messenger does not offer them for personal accounts. This will likely change, so check before relying on it.

AI Reply Assistant schedules messages on all four networks, and goes further than the official apps:

  • Repeating messages on every network. Send the same message daily, on chosen days of the week, or at a custom interval, on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger as well as Telegram, with no Telegram Premium needed. The next one is scheduled automatically after each send.
  • One message to many chats. Schedule a single message to a list of people, groups, Telegram channels or forum topics, and see which ones it was delivered to.
  • Names filled in per recipient. A message sent to thirty people can start with each person’s first name.
  • Polls, events and checklists as scheduled messages, not only text and attachments.

See the Schedule Message chapter for how to set one up.

Saved replies

WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram all have saved replies, but only for business accounts. WhatsApp’s are in the separate WhatsApp Business app. Telegram’s need Telegram Business, which is part of Premium. Instagram’s need a professional account. Messenger has no saved replies in the app at all.

AI Reply Assistant has saved replies, called Quick Replies, on ordinary personal accounts. A Quick Reply can include up to 2,000 characters of text, up to ten attachments including documents, and placeholders such as the recipient’s first name that are filled in when you send it. On WhatsApp it can also include tappable buttons, which the WhatsApp app itself only offers to businesses using Meta’s paid API.

The AI can write Quick Replies for you, and you can import the saved replies you already have. Telegram Business can save stickers in a reply; AI Reply Assistant cannot. The Quick Reply chapter has the full list of what one can contain.

Shortcuts and automation

The four official apps add 25 actions to Apple’s Shortcuts app between them. Most are call controls or buttons that open the app. Five of them send a message, and each of those sends to one person picked from your contacts. None of them can send to a group, and none of them return any information you could use in the next step of a shortcut. Instagram’s nine actions include no way to send a direct message.

AI Reply Assistant adds 28 actions that work on all four networks. They include:

  • sending text, photos and videos, polls, locations, contact cards, events and calendar files
  • sending to any chat, including groups, channels and bots, or to a list of chats in one action
  • finding conversations, messages and contacts by filters such as unread, muted or last message date, and passing the results to the next action
  • creating groups, adding members and scheduling messages

For example, a shortcut can find every group whose last message is more than a week old and send each of them a reminder, without you choosing the groups by hand each time. The Shortcuts chapter lists every action.

Privacy and control

Instagram and Messenger do not let other apps change their privacy settings, so those two still need to be changed in the official apps.

Smaller differences

  • Undo delete for everyone. After you delete a message for everyone, you have five seconds to undo it before the deletion reaches the other person. WhatsApp can undo “delete for me”, but none of the official apps can undo a deletion for everyone.
  • Accidental cancel protection. If you cancel a voice or video recording longer than a second, the app asks before discarding it.
  • Threads. You can see all the replies to one message together, on all four networks.
  • Stickers across networks. Your Telegram sticker packs and premium emoji can be sent in WhatsApp chats.
  • Themes. Colours, gradients, bubble shapes, fonts and wallpapers can all be changed. WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger have chat themes and wallpapers, but not bubble shapes or fonts.

Where the official apps are better

  • Calls. AI Reply Assistant does not make or receive voice or video calls on any network. Use the official app for calls.
  • One account per network. You can connect one WhatsApp, one Telegram, one Instagram and one Messenger account. If you run a personal WhatsApp and a WhatsApp Business account on two numbers, you can only connect one of them.
  • Instagram and Messenger features. These two are not yet at the level of WhatsApp and Telegram in the app. You cannot send documents on Instagram, polls work in groups only, and shared locations and contacts arrive as a link and text rather than as a card.
  • Devices. The app needs iOS 26 or later and runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple silicon Macs. There is no Android, Windows or web version. The Apple Intelligence features need an iPhone 15 Pro or later.
  • New features. Each network releases its newest features in its own app first.

Who AI Reply Assistant is for, compared with the WhatsApp Business API

Businesses that want to message customers on WhatsApp at scale usually look at the WhatsApp Business Platform, often called the WhatsApp Business API, which Meta offers directly and through a range of providers. It and AI Reply Assistant are built for different jobs.

The WhatsApp Business API is built for medium and large businesses doing marketing and customer service at volume. It is designed to reach large numbers of people, including people who have never messaged the business before, from a business number registered on the platform. It gives a team shared access to one inbox, reporting, and connections to CRM and marketing tools. In return, a message that starts a conversation has to use a template Meta has approved, Meta charges for those messages, and it covers WhatsApp only.

AI Reply Assistant is built for messaging people you already know, from the accounts you already use. It works across WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and Messenger together. A scheduled broadcast goes to conversations you already have, and is sent at a steady pace rather than all at once. There are no templates to get approved and no per-message charges from Meta.

Choose the WhatsApp Business API if you need to reach large numbers of customers, including new ones, with a team working from one inbox. Choose AI Reply Assistant if the people you need to reach are already in your chats and you want to reply faster, follow up on time, and find things across all four apps. If you only use one network and mostly make calls, the official app is enough.

AI Reply Assistant is free to download. The paid plans remove the free plan’s limits and differ only in how many accounts you can connect at once: Solo connects one, Duo connects any two, and Pro connects all four. The product page has the current prices.
