AI Writer is a guided, preset-driven writing tool built into AI Reply Assistant. Instead of staring at a blank prompt, you pick an occasion — a wedding toast, a keynote, a sales follow-up, a launch post — answer a few targeted questions, and Apple Intelligence drafts a complete, polished piece for you. You then refine it in plain language until it sounds right. It replaces the older free-form quick-reply generator with something far more capable for longer, more considered writing.

Twenty-one presets across three groups:

• Speeches (9) — Introduce someone, Wedding toast, Eulogy, Birthday / milestone, Award acceptance, Keynote / conference, Business pitch, Team / farewell, and Welcome / opening remarks.
• Posts (7) — Thought-leadership, Announcement / launch, Personal story, Hot take / opinion, Event recap, Hiring / job post, and Celebration / thank-you.
• Business messages (5) — Sales follow-up, Quote / proposal, Win-back / re-engagement, Review request, and Apology / service recovery.

Each preset has its own guided form — tone options, a length, and the specific details that occasion needs.

AI Writer runs entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence. Your inputs and the drafts it produces never leave your iPhone — there is no cloud request, no server logging, and no account required. Speeches up to roughly 1,800 words are written section by section on device so length and structure hold up.

Once a draft appears, use the refine bar at the bottom to tell AI Writer what to change — “make it warmer,” “cut it down,” “add a line about her promotion” — by typing or by voice with live dictation. Each refinement creates a new draft and keeps the previous one, so you can page back and forth (“Draft 2 of 3”) and pick the version you like best.

Yes. From the review screen you can copy the draft, edit it inline, regenerate it, or save it straight into your Quick Reply library — so a message you’ll reuse is one tap away in any chat. AI Writer opens from the AI Generation button in the Quick Reply library.

AI Writer needs iOS 26 or later on an Apple Intelligence-capable device — iPhone 15 Pro and later, or an iPad or Mac with an M1 chip or A17 Pro and later. No Claude key or API key is required; it uses Apple’s on-device model. On the Free plan, each draft counts toward your 10 on-device AI actions a day (shared with Smart Reply, Analyze, Summary, and Skills); Pro makes them unlimited.
